Whats In The Photo:

Prudhoe Bay oil field as seen at night from space. This picture is a composite of several Defense Meteorological Satellite (DMSP) images that were acquired just after sunset. The outline of Alaska is faintly visible. Bright yellow spots are the lights of human habitation and activity. The biggest lighted areas are Anchorage in the south; Fairbanks to the northeast; and the Prudhoe Bay industrial oil and gas complex on the north coast, appearing as bright as Alaska's largest cities.
