Whats In The Photo:3D perspective view looking towards the west-southwest, showing the Jonah natural gas field as it appeared in 2004. Compare with 1986 image. Over 500 wells have been drilled, most since 1998, covering an area approaching 100 square miles. Well pads are pale spots, each 3-4 acres in size, connected by a network of hundreds of miles of graded access roads. Dark blue spots are open pits containing drilling fluids. Pale green color of many well pads and access roads indicates new vegetation is growing, suggesting that some kind of reclamation is being attempted. Over 3,000 additional wells are now (February 2005) being considered in this area. Scale varies in this perspective image. Foreground is 7 miles across. Landsat satellite image combined with digital elevation data.
